7 Warning Signs You May Need a Volkswagen Battery Replacement

If you spot any of these signs, it might be time to replace your battery.

• Slow to Start: If your engine is slow to turn over or takes longer to start than it should, it could mean your battery needs to be charged or replaced.
• Electronics Lose Their Charge: You should have no problem charging your mobile phone while your vehicle is running. If this proves too much for your vehicle’s charger output, the battery might be weak.
• Check Engine Light On: The check engine light will come on for many reasons, but a weak car battery is one of the first things that will set it off.
• Low Battery Fluid: Most modern car batteries don’t need fluid replacement. If your battery fluid is low, it probably has a leak and should be replaced.
• Strange Smell: The smell of sulfur (rotten eggs) coming from your battery is an indication that two chemicals that should not meet are mixing. This is a sure sign it needs to be replaced.
• Bloated Battery Case: Like strange smells, a bloated battery case indicates that a chemical reaction is going on inside the battery that should not be going on. This means you should replace your battery as soon as possible.
• The Battery is More than 4 Years Old: Car batteries are designed to last for two to four years at the most. If yours is older than two years, keep up with routine battery charge checks. If it's four years or older, you should definitely replace it.
